Hi, this is Leah Crawford.

Unknown Speaker 0:27
And I'm Rhonda Nolan.

Unknown Speaker 0:28
Welcome to the let's talk with Leann Rhonda show.

Unknown Speaker 0:31
We're here for you and we're ready to go.

Unknown Speaker 0:33
Let's do it.

Unknown Speaker 0:35
Good morning. Las Vegas. How are you feeling on this fabulous Saturday morning? Oh, it's hot outside it is. It's still hot. I mean, you know, this year has been you know, really crazy. You know, we had double digits in May September, and we have double digits in September. We

Unknown Speaker 0:55
did no no. Double digit double digit mean 90. No, we

Unknown Speaker 0:59
had triple digits in May. We have triple digits right now. September. What is going on?

Unknown Speaker 1:04
I thought you want to it is cooler at night, though. That's true. And early in the morning because in the heat of the summer is like this. You got to be it cannot be still 103 degrees at 2am. Yes, yes. Yes, still is. But it's Las Vegas. Right?

Unknown Speaker 1:18
Welcome, Las Vegas.

Unknown Speaker 1:19
I'm Rhonda Nolan. And I am Lea Crawford.

Unknown Speaker 1:21
And we are here to say good morning to all human entreprenuer morning

Unknown Speaker 1:26
entrepreneurs. I know we it's been a it's been a long, eight, it's been 18 months. Rhonda, I think it's been it's about 17 or 18 months, it has been 17 or 18 months, we've been in COVID-19. We've seen some interesting business cycles. We are, of course support your small businesses in our community because they are providing services that were open. We're wearing masks, but no support so that we can stay open.

Unknown Speaker 1:54
Yes. And this is the last this is the last week of National Business Week SBA did a whole program this week, they had several panels and all types of things for small business owners. And so yeah, this this was the last week for it. And but you can go onto their website sba.gov. And see playbacks of all the things they had happening this past week.

Unknown Speaker 2:13
Oh, that's a good thing. And virtually. Okay, so you hear so well, the good thing is, is that you got to take you got a chance to take advantage of a lot of things because they were virtual. And you didn't have to fly to DC or fly wherever in order to be a part of something because a lot of people did virtual conferences. And now from what my understanding, they're looking at doing hybrid conferences, because of the number of participants that they got from the virtual conferences.

Unknown Speaker 2:42
That is true. And a lot of businesses got international people on it, okay, during their programs, which they really loved because they really had a message that was a worldwide message. And so a lot of people liked the virtual method, and they're going to be moving forward with December disseminating information that way to people.

Unknown Speaker 3:00
I love it. I love it. I guess that also builds the brand. Well, I want to I guess we can stay on the SBA. But I really want to talk about another topic, though.

Unknown Speaker 3:07
What topic do you have in mind, we

Unknown Speaker 3:09
can we can finish the SBA and then we can get to that top? Because I think you can like this one. Okay, good. All right. So got one, SBA, we talked about PPP, before forgiveness applications, they are starting to be emailed,

Unknown Speaker 3:23
that is correct. So depending upon who you received your PPP from whichever your bank is, they are starting to send out emails, letting you know how to fill out the forgiveness application. And so basically, after you received your money, eight weeks after that your file was closed, and then based on that date, that's how they're rolling out all of the links, so you could get a link from the actual bank that you got your money from, you could get a link from the third party that you received your money from, and you could get a link from the SBA. So keep keep checking your email list of emails looking for the link from one of those three sources. But also don't forget to check your junk email box because sometimes this stuff gets caught in there.

Unknown Speaker 4:08
Okay. So just look out for because they are coming out and if you spend funds on payroll or the the eligible expenses, you want to apply for the forgiveness because forgiveness is not automatic, correct. You have to apply for the forgiveness you have

Unknown Speaker 4:25
to apply and they may not ask you for copies of your receipts right now, but hold on to them because they have seven years to come back and audit you and ask you what you spent the money so

Unknown Speaker 4:37
that's 2022 2320 420-526-2020 2702 2324 2426 Okay, no, I just wanted to make sure 2027 So they have until 2027 to ask you for the the documentation so you want to keep in popping those electric files electronic file Why don't we keep telling you about he wants to keep telling, you know, just file everything have it because when they come back and they ask for the documentation, they're going to want to know that you spent said funds on what you said you what you what the money was intended to be spent on.

Unknown Speaker 5:14
Correct. And also, if you have a digital receipt for any of those services on your computer, make sure you back it up on your cloud, because as you know, computers only lasts so long, I believe I get a new laptop every two years, just make sure you have your documents. So make sure it's in your cloud. And or on an external hard drive. It's actually replaces an external hard drive,

Unknown Speaker 5:35
say when you Google Drive, put it on your Microsoft,

Unknown Speaker 5:39
drive your Microsoft drive your external hard drive in the cloud, just make sure

Unknown Speaker 5:43
you had more importantly, make sure you know where you're at. And make sure you know when anybody comes. Anybody comes knocking you have your documentation also idle. So idle is still available, okay, is still open and available. It is streamlined. I did help someone this week with applications slowed down tremendously. And interesting thing is he saw how much money he qualified for right away. So it was everything was there. They even he had to put he had interest numbers in the see if he was eligible for the $10,000. Grant. And the $5,000 supplemental grant. So everything is there. So streamline process a lot easier, because he got his responses a lot faster. And I'm looking forward, you know, to explain to him what he needed to use the monies for. But those that didn't apply, it's not it's not too late. So if you are interested in receiving an idle loan, and you just didn't want to get caught up just the stuff, it was too confusing. Or if there was an issue before, you might want to go back and try to reapply because if you're Oh application I think wasn't fun to do. It's closed. So it was that right? Yeah. If it wasn't if for any reason it was denied. It possibly was closing a situation could have possibly changed. Yeah. So go back and reapply and if you reapply and just see what they say because most they can say is no, that's why if you don't ask the answer is automatically No, that's correct. You know, my name is Leah Cropper. My

Unknown Speaker 7:03
name is Rhonda Nolan. And you're listening to less talk with Leah and Rhonda on WKU envy 91.5 She got it right. 10 days I'm on

Unknown Speaker 7:13
the data, you look absolutely amazing. I must say that. Well, thank you very much beautiful, my beautiful, beautiful, beautiful cohosts what I want to talk about is branding. Oh, really, and the reason why I want to go back there again is photoshoots. branding yourself as a entrepreneur, what does that look like? How long? How does it take and I want to talk about the executive picture service. Because I think that a lot of times as entrepreneurs, we we lose sight of that we are our our brand. We are our brand and I know we talked we discussed it, we discussed it in detail many times. Just what No, who are you? Right? What does that look like? And we never really talked about in detail. What does it take to do a photo shoot.

Unknown Speaker 8:05
So let me let me first start here. So for entrepreneurs, you should have a photo and bio of your entire executive team. It should really want everybody so if even if you're an entrepreneur and you're by yourself, you should have a photo bio of yourself and your staff quite frankly, if you have a slightly larger company and you have several other managers or executives that work with you, you should have their photo and bio it really should be part of your website. So if a person is doing a background check on you to see who you are and what your company is about. They see what you look like see what you look like exactly because they absolutely look they're looking first of all they Google you anybody who does business with me Google's me Google then they they LinkedIn me and then I come right up and so you know they look okay and consistent with the picture right? And then they go to your website and they check to see if you have a website because nowadays if you don't have a website people don't think you're in business.

Unknown Speaker 8:58
Or your legitly

Unknown Speaker 9:02
got it so when it comes to photo shoots, they're not as easy as people think they are.

Unknown Speaker 9:07
Is not the selfie on the phone

Unknown Speaker 9:09
it's not the selfie of the phone it's not a picture of you at the football game Monday night there's not a pitcher you from the night and

Unknown Speaker 9:15
congratulations to those Raiders right congratulations today. Congratulations to the Raiders you know beat the Baltimore Ravens

Unknown Speaker 9:22
they sure did Monday night's game was fantastic. Anyway, I digress, go back to back to the photos when it comes to the photo shoot. The first thing you want to do is you want to find well it's couple of different things. There are a lot there are certain companies that offer executive Photo Services, which gives you all the things you need for your your photo shoot and what does that mean and that entails the executive photo service finds a photographer, a studio, a stylist to help style you for your photo, a makeup artist and hairdresser.

Unknown Speaker 9:53
Okay, so let's start let's now let's break all those things up because you said a lot. And let's go into detail Hi, I'm coming. And I need photoshoot, right? What do I do first?

Unknown Speaker 10:07
First of all, you call me. Hey, and we set up a consultation. Okay? And we meet face to face? Well, I'll contact you. Right? You contact me, okay, we set up an initial consultation I meet you face to face and see, you know, what your, what your what you look like what your style is, I kind of talk to you and kind of find out those things. And then at that point, I decide that I hire one of my I engage with one of my stylists to come meet you personally. And come to see what is in your closet to see if we can use some of the things in your closet for the photoshoot.

Unknown Speaker 10:39
Okay, so step number one, I contact you, and then we have an initial conversation correct? And then you direct me to say stylists, correct. What does the stylists do?

Unknown Speaker 10:49
So the stylists we have actually go through your closet, and they look at the things you've already purchased for yourself and trying to see what you have. They also have you try on some of those clothes to make sure they're the best fit. And at the same time, they're giving you a consult on what things look good on you, and what things might not look so good on you. Right. So sometimes people have things in their closets they've just never worn and they could work. They could work beautifully for the photoshoot. And sometimes people don't have anything in their closet. That will work for the photoshoot. Because this is an executive photo shoot, so there's a certain way you need to look. So at that point, then our stylist goes out and finds the items that we need for the photoshoot and we borrow the items, we gently use them for the photoshoot, and then we take them back after the photo shoot is over. Okay,

Unknown Speaker 11:37
now what if you have set client that wants to okay, because I know or what if the client wants to keep the clothes,

Unknown Speaker 11:45
they can purchase them, they can purchase the clothes of the client loves all the items or some of the items that that the stylist chooses for them. They can pay us with clothes,

Unknown Speaker 11:54
okay? All right. So then after you do I have my I've already talked to you set stylists comes out. And we we have closed now, what is the next step?

Unknown Speaker 12:06
At the same time, I like to have my hairdresser assess your look. So I assess your look first and our consultation to see kind of what your hair looks like how are you wearing it? Do you maintain it? And if it looks pretty good, then I just scheduled time for you to meet with our hairdresser the day of the photoshoot so that she or he can actually do your hair and do your makeup. Now if there's a situation where you might be slightly scruffy because you haven't had a haircut in a while or shave or this or that, then we we address that situation and we find the right stylist for you to help get you together.

Unknown Speaker 12:39
hair stylists that's hair stylists and makeup artists. Correct. Okay, so the day so now i have i I've consulted Rhonda step number one I've had the stylists come out to put me the figure out what I look good in, we get to the hairstylist comes out and looks at me and see what kind of hair I have. Or what I want to do with my hair. Then do we go to the photoshoot.

Unknown Speaker 13:03
So then the stylists clothing stylist helps you choose all the clothes for the photo shoot, or the stylist goes out and go shopping for you. Okay, so then we schedule the photo shoot, you show up at says studio where we have the photographer there. And we have the stylist there with all of your clothes if we had to purchase them for you, or you bring all the clothes with you when you come. And at that point, we assess the looks that you have. And we determine in which order we're going to shoot those looks and then we shoot

Unknown Speaker 13:30
the light. So and then also remember that the looks are also it's not just clothes, because for women, it's jewelry, it's accessories and shoes is everything.

Unknown Speaker 13:38
Also the and what we do that day of your photoshoot is you come in early to get your hair done first, then you have your makeup done. And then we step into the studio and we actually do

Unknown Speaker 13:49
the photo shoot and did a photo shoot. And how long does the photoshoot actually think it depends on

Unknown Speaker 13:53
how many looks you're looking for. Because sometimes you're just looking for an executive photo shoot, but sometimes you're looking for photos to use and advertise those lifestyle photos, those lifestyle photos. Exactly. And so it just depends on what your need is.

Unknown Speaker 14:05
Okay. All right. So and then afterwards, how long would it take to get those pictures?

Unknown Speaker 14:09
So about a week later, we will send you over the pictures? And yeah, and then you would take it from there. And then you would have them you know, digitally in your file for you to use in case you're being awarded. Or somebody needs you to come speak on a panel and they say hey, do you have a photo and a bio I have a whole bunch of absolutely I do I have several which one would you like now

Unknown Speaker 14:31
do you also help write the BIOS?

Unknown Speaker 14:34
We can help write the BIOS if need be. Okay, you can

Unknown Speaker 14:37
help write the BIOS to so that this person has a executive packet. Yes. And

Unknown Speaker 14:41
people you should have more than one bio. You should have a one paragraph bio you should have a two paragraph bio and then you should have your life story which could be a couple of pages. But it depends on because some people take your bio and put it in print. And so it depends on how much space they have, especially if you're being honored and there's a problem or in books and things of that nature. They take that information and instead of them condensing it down,

Unknown Speaker 15:04
you condense it there, you can just sit down, what you want to present is out there, and you still have control over exactly. I told you, you were gonna do most of the talking. And believe me, I see. Right was the Thank you, right? What's not right isn't what I said at the beginning of the show. I said she gonna do most of the talk. And she didn't know that right? I didn't know I was

Unknown Speaker 15:18
being interviewed. But okay.

Unknown Speaker 15:21
All right. So as entrepreneur, when in my when, when should I wish that I decided to do this? Do I do it when I first go into business? Do I do it while I'm in business? Or is this something that I continually do?

Unknown Speaker 15:32
So it depends on where you are in your business? Okay, so if you're just starting a brand new business, you could wait six months to a year end. But if you have been in business 2345 10 years, you need to have this information

Unknown Speaker 15:45
need to have this information and how often should I guess you refresh the pictures or refresh?

Unknown Speaker 15:53
That's really up to you. Okay, that's, that's, that's really up to you. It's so interesting, because sometimes I see executives that turn in their photo and bio and the photos from 10 years ago, and you're like, wait a minute, you don't exactly look like that guy, Hey, you were jet black, when you took this 10 years ago, right? Slightly gray and sexy, slightly Gray, it's actually rise slightly Gray, you know, maybe every depending upon how you use them, if it's just an executive photo, and you know, and you're just using it to send out every now and then, you know, maybe every five to 10 years. But if you're using yourself as a brand, and you're promoting your company or brand, every couple of years, you want to be freshened up

Unknown Speaker 16:31
every two years, every every two years. I love it. I love it. And those those are business expenses, they are business, they are business expenses, they are business expenses, because that is part of that is part of your desk professional fee, that's part of your brand and you get a contract, you do contracts and everything. Right. Okay. I like it. I like it. And I guess the reason why I'm asking is because a lot of people that through the pandemic have decided to start their own businesses, right. And you are you are your you are your brand. Even though you know you're selling candles, you are still your brand. That's right, and how you show up, especially if you want to get I mean, someone say CNN wants to come in and do an interview, and they want to know feature you or whatever. Now you have something that at least you can hand off to say, This is me, this is who I am, and you are control of it.

Unknown Speaker 17:16
And if you're like me, and you're looking to sit on boards for different corporations, you want to have that information together want to have that information readily available, readily available. If you're entrepreneur and you've been in you worked in corporate America long time and you've worked for yourself a long time boards are seeking you out. So you have to have your full bio, with your photo available at any time and your resume in order to interview for those board positions. And ladies and gentlemen, some of those board positions are paid or

Unknown Speaker 17:41
positions are paid for positions are paid for or paid.

Unknown Speaker 17:44
Right board, some of them volunteer and some of them are paid. So you want to be readied for board positions.

Unknown Speaker 17:50
All right. My name is Leah Crawford. My

Unknown Speaker 17:53
name is Rhonda Nolan. And you're listening to less talk with Lee and Rhonda and we pay you in V

Unknown Speaker 17:58
Yeah. And we just we just went over just the things, some things to think about as an entrepreneur because I know we people talk about marketing, they talk about branding, they talk about advertising. And as entrepreneurs, you know your business, and you might not know or understand these little tips and tricks to help you. Because if you say you're selling hamburgers, I'm flipping hamburgers all day long. I'm not thinking about what I look like. But when you do these, and we've seen women and men, when they do these photo shoots, and we're like, oh, that's what you look like dressed up. Because we as entrepreneurs

Unknown Speaker 18:31
tend to dress down we tend to dress because we

Unknown Speaker 18:33
grinded. We're grinding. We're grinding we're moving to shake and we saw we got on blue jeans and jeans. Right? We're just trying to have a look do you need me to do and I'm gonna go ahead and get it done right but when it but when you are like going to a bank or you have to present or you're giving a conference, you want to have that polished look, you do anytime should be getting awards and different things like that. You want to be polished.

Unknown Speaker 18:56
Anytime I'm meeting a client, I'm in my client ready suit. You know, anytime I'm going to ask for money from a bank, I'm in my client ready suit.

Unknown Speaker 19:04
You have to look like your brand and tell them spending money I'm in my entrepreneur

Unknown Speaker 19:08
right but when I'm spending money on my mom for no liquid your jeans, Jim, when I go ask for the money or ask for the business, I am always suited and ready to go

Unknown Speaker 19:17
and I'm ready to go. All right. Well, Rhonda, I really appreciate that because I know we talked about marketing before I know we talked about branding, I don't think that we ever got into the what it takes to to do a photo shoot, right? What it really takes to do a photo shoot because it's not just a selfie. And you know, it's not professional

Unknown Speaker 19:34
is not and in addition to doing a photo shoot, we also do video snippets, oh, video snippets or what a video snippets so a video snippet is a small commercial about you or your business or your brand. And we do several of those within the photoshoot and nice and there are things that you can use you know in your social media campaigns nice because people love video now if people love pictures, but people love video

Unknown Speaker 19:59
because now it's more and are active and they can't hear you. They can see you they can feel your energy in. Okay, so you've really you've really have to, I like it. And all of that is included in said,

Unknown Speaker 20:10
that's correct. All right.

Unknown Speaker 20:11
I love it. I love it. I love it. The last thing I wanted to get on, because we had a, we were talking about insurance. And we were talking about COVID-19. And just one of our engineers for somewhere else had transition. And we were talking about as entrepreneurs, how are you insured, and no doubt Marquez gets one here. And he talks about insurance and things like that. But as entrepreneurs, it's very important for you to be insured is very we talked about relationships with banks, relationships with your banker, your your clients, but your insurance agent, having a real relationship with your insurance agent reviewing because I think we had a lesson last Sunday about some things with insurance, right, you know, understanding the types of insurance insurances you need to carry? What are the costs of them? What is the return on that was I think we were talking about, you know, doing a budget, and like advertising should be a part of your budget, accounting, professional fees, if that's not what you do should be part of your budget. But your insurance should be part of your budget, whether it's personal or business, because for your business, you want to make sure you're honest, in short, but personally, your wife, you, you want to make sure you are you sure you want to, you want to be insured,

Unknown Speaker 21:36
just like you insure your house and your car in your apartment, you want to insure yourself, and I'm just not talking about health insurance, you know, Blue Cross Blue Shield, you know, Anthem, it's just want this one thing, I'm talking about personnel insurance. So in case anything happens to you, where you get sick, and you can't work, that you have long term disability policy in place to make sure that you are receiving some funds to pay your bills. And then also, you know, one day all of us are going to leave here, we need to have our at our funeral and burial insurance together.

Unknown Speaker 22:08
You know, and burial. I mean, it's, I don't think we talk about it enough as entrepreneurs. And we should, and we should, because especially if you are the breadwinner for your family, yes. So what happens if something happens to you, and it's also the amount of insurance because review it. So if you go, I mean, you're doing your financial statements, and you see first year you're in business, you're making 100,000. But now you're making 234 100,000, your family has to replace that income, right? And they need some way, I mean, just some way to be able to live, you know, I know for rule of thumb, well, one thing I do every year is I look at the value of my house. And if my homeowner's policy sends me something where they know that the value has increased, I increased the insurance to match what they said to protect the value is that smart, and I just pay whatever the difference is, you know, like we talked about on Sunday, I pay my insurance before I pay anything else, right. And

Unknown Speaker 23:04
the reason we were talking about this is because we had an associate that was in California, and they had a home and they when they first bought the home, you know it was insured for maybe 300,000, right. And then over time the value went up. And so the value went from that 300,000 to 500,000. However, when their house burned down, because of the winds of the fires in California, they were not able to collect the 500,000 that the house was worth because they had only insured it for 300,000. So they received a check for 300,000. But they could not build on that land anymore.

Unknown Speaker 23:41
And they still had we were talking about when they got the check because they still had a lien holder. The check came in the lien holders name as well as their own. So it was negotiating, and they still had a balance with the lien holder. So how much money did they really receive? And we were just like, but had you? I mean, just handling your business? And I don't know if you do it, you know, annually. So you know, the first of the year, why are you making all your New Year's resolutions? Make an appointment with the insurance guy looking at me, you need to talk because I need to go over my life with you and what's going on with me. Let's look at the policies that I have and do and what do I need to do because you're paying them every month. If you have insurance policies, you're paying them every month, correct them work,

Unknown Speaker 24:18
correct. Put them to work, and they can let you know what what what you're covering, because someone told me a long time ago, hey, when you buy a house, make sure you get the policy so that if something happens to you, your house is paid off. And whoever you leave your house to has it free and clear. Yeah, I was like wow, that's interesting. Okay.

Unknown Speaker 24:34
Yeah, no, but it's those little, it's those little tips and they know, they know insurance. So I'm not an expert in insurance. I just know you need it. And I know what I need. I know who to call. And my insurance guy is. As a matter of fact, I need to take him to lunch next week. So no, and we and the funny thing because I take I take him well he takes me most of the time because when I get there I make him pay me Look, I'm paying you all year long to take me to lunch, but having that really externship with him actually is helpful. Because when I, when I have different things happen, you know, it's I'm not I'm calling him. Okay, this is what happened. What should I do? You do this every day helped me, you know, tell me and he was helping me. He was like, Okay, well, you want to make sure that the kids aren't short, you want to make sure this isn't short. And I'm like, so how much am I paying you? Every mobile? This is what you're paying me. I was like, Okay, got it, that money comes automatically out of my account. Don't think about it. Because what I don't want to worry about if something happens to me, and I'm car everything. If something happens to the car, I know it's insured. I know it's insured.

Unknown Speaker 25:36
And I tell you something every year your policy you have to resign or reapproved. Right, so, this so the last year I have a trip to AAA is my insurance for my car. And but I have automatic deductions. So they take it out of the bank. So anyway, they take it out. And so they were like, oh, it's time, you know, your policy expired. I was like, Yeah, but you're still taking money in my account. So you know, I should still have a policy. I'm like, oh, yeah, you're right.

Unknown Speaker 26:01
Right. And that's, and that's the other thing, and that's the other thing, because it's like if you're taking if you can't, did you take the money? Okay, you got the money, right? You got the money. But we were learning we were and I think maybe we should really start to have that conversation with people. Let's talk about it. Because are we insured? Are we I would rather be over uninsured and underinsured. That's

Unknown Speaker 26:22
right. And even if you have valuables in your home, like when I was getting my new home, and I was telling the insurance guy, Hey, I have you know, XYZ, ABC, right, I need to have covered that are inside of the home. And they're like, Okay, great. Glad you were glad you told us about this,

Unknown Speaker 26:35
because now we need to add that value on that, right. And then I know for certain things, especially higher priced items, keeping the receipts here we go with documentation again. So scanning your receipts where you put everything else and making sure that you have a copy of said receipt, because if something happens, you can prove these are my assets. This is what I had, this is what I paid for it. That's correct. And so you can get them replaced. But
